Allergies can usually range from mild to severe and each allergic response shares with it several characteristics. An allergy is usually defined as an overreaction of the human body’s immune system towards certain substances that are inhaled, touched or ingested. The degree of sensitivity varies in individuals with some that might suffer from a serious disorder while with other the reaction can significantly be controlled. When a person suffers from an allergic reaction, the main aim should be to minimize or control the response. Desensitization is another approach in which the body is slowly conditioned to not respond to specific allergens. Although, quite common, sometimes, it becomes quite difficult to treat an allergy.

While talking about the symptoms that are related to allergies, they can range from mild to severe that can include sneezing, coughing or watery eyes. In some of the severe cases, hives or shortness of breath can also occur. Although, common reactions can be easily treated by giving necessary medicines, but in severe cases, allergens that are injected into the bloodstream can carry a risk of fatality. Therefore, in such cases medicines such as penicillin, vaccines, venoms from insects or snakes and sometimes allergy shots are also given.

It has also been found that allergy is also a genetically transmitted disorder, which states that if any of your parents or grandparents is suffering from allergies, chances are that it would also be transmitted to the children. Most of the people are not even aware of the fact that whether they are suffering from allergies or not. Therefore, by conducting necessary skin tests, you can get to know your sensitivity towards various known allergens. Although, there are many people that are suffer from allergies, but there is not any specific medicine that can treat allergy completely. However, there are medicines that can certainly reduce or prevent the symptoms to occur again and again.
